The Legend Of The Spanish Strummer Story

Hi everyone!! Just wanna say thank you for the love and support of my new album Better Late Than Never. I've been getting a lot of awesome feedback. Listeners have been asking about my song The Legend Of The Spanish Strummer. This song was created with rhythmic advise from my buddy Carlos Rodriguez ( He informed me about the clave rhythm .

Clave: It is a rhythmic pattern used as a tool for temporal organization in Afro-Cuban music. It is present in a variety of genres such as Abakuá music, rumba, conga, son, mambo, salsa, songo, timba and Afro-Cuban jazz. The five-stroke clave pattern represents the structural core of many Afro-Cuban rhythms.

Before one of our rehearsals, he was showing me the pattern for Clave by clapping the pattern while counting in 4/4 time. It stuck in my mind after this. I'm a fan of this type of music and started listening to salsa, rumba and afro Cuban music. As I'm listening, I am tapping my foot to the clave rhythm. During the production of my album, I wanted to take on a project song for this type of rhythm and style. It all started coming together when the chord structures were set in stone. After mapping out the song, it was time to put a melody. I wanted the melody to be simple, but with flare. I also wanted to have fun with this song, so I put a drum solo break to make it more interesting. After the drum solo was done, I went back into the clave rhythm, and back to the recognizable melody that would make this piece known to the listeners. I would like to say once again, thank you Carlos for your guidance and teachings. Saludos! 🤙🏽
